Physician's Materia Medica on Acacia

ACACIAACACI
   A gummy e rudate from the trunk and branches of ACACIA SENE GAL, Willd. and other species of Acacia. Demulcent; sometimes prescribed in cough mixtures. The oflicial preparations are Mucilage Acacia (21 3-5 grs.) and Syrup Acacia (5 2-5 grs.). which should always be prepared fresh when wanted for internal use.1

CATECHU
   An extract from the wood of ACACIA CATECHU. (Lin.f.) Willd. A powerful astringent. Used to control passive fluxes and hemorrhages, both internally and as a local application.1
