Physician's Materia Medica on Saccharin (glusldum)

SACCHARIN (Glusldum)
   A derivative of toluene, remarkable for its intense sweetness. It inhibits partially the action of digestive enzymes, but is used chiefly as a substitute for sugar where that article is inadmissible.1
