Physician's Materia Medica on Wintergreen (gaultherla)

WINTERGREEN (Gaultherla)PYROL
   The leaves of GAULTHERIA mzOCUMBENs, Lin. Aromatic, antiseptic, astringent, galactagogue, also a stimulant diuretic and emmenagogue. Used in chronic diarrhea, in dysuria and as a carminative in infantile colic. The essential oil consists chiefly of Methyl Salicylate and is a valuable remedy in articular rheumatism (externally and internally) and in fermentative dyspepsia and diarrhea. Dose of the oil 0.2 to 0.6 c. c. (3 to 10 M) or more.1
