BLACK HAW
   The bark of the root of VIBURNU M PRUNIFOLIUM, Lin. Tonic, antispasmodic, astringent, uterine sedative. Used especially in d ysmenorrhea, menorrhagia, to prevent threatened abortion and to relieve after-pains.2

CRAMP BARK (Viburnum Opuius)
   The bark of VIBURNUM OPULUs, Lin. Antispasmodic, tonic, alterative, uterine sedative. Uses the same as those of Black Haw, q. v.2

Physician's Therapeutics Memoranda on Black Haw

MENORRHAGIA AND METRORRHAGIA
   If hemorrhage is active, ergot is the best remedy, if passive. oil of erigeron (3 m5 minim doses) has the preference. Fluid extract cinnamon is a favorite remedy with some; Elixir Viburnum Com pound, N., B. & Co., is efficient; cannabis indica, black haw, witch hazel (distilled extract) and bromides of potassium and sodium are all useful.2
