Action and Therapy.—Probably of some value in uterine subinvolution... / ...proof to be given credence. Its relative, the White Ash, is said to be cathartic.1

Physician's Materia Medica on Fraxinus

BLACK ASHFRNI
   The bark of FRAXINUs NIGR.-l, Marsh. Tonic, alterative, discutient, astringent.2

MANNA
   Saccharine exudate from FRAXINUs ORNUS. Lin. Aperient, mildly cholagogue, expectorant. Mostly used as a laxative for children. Dose, 8 to 15 Grm. (2 to 4 drachms).2

WHITE ASHFRAM2
   The bark of FRAXINUS AMERICANA Lin. Tonic, cathartic, febrifuge, antiarthritic; a vaso-motor stimulant. Has been recommended in uterine diseases dependent upon plethora.2
