   The fruit of JUNIPERUs COMMUNIS, Lin. Stimulant diuretic. Much used in chronic affections of the genito-urinary tract; must be avoided while there is active inflammation. Active constituent the volatile oil, which is oflicial.2

   Refrigerant, laxative, diuretic. Used especially in combination with J alap in dropsy, occasionally combined with Sulphur as a laxa tive in case of hemorrhoids, also used in combination with Spirit of Juniper in chronic nephritis. Dose, as diuretic, 4 to 8 Grm. (1 to 2 drachms); as cathartic, 15 to 30 Grm. (96 to 1 oz.).2

Externally applied as a counter-irritant. The active constituent is the official volatile oil which is given in doses of 0.1 to 0.5 c. c. (2 to 10 drops).2

NEPHRITIS, ACUTE
   Prescribe at first aconite, calomel and sodium bicarbonate fol lowed by a saline cathartic; warm mucilaginous drinks, potassium citrate and Ze-an; Glyceroplasma over loins. If uremia is threaten ed, elaterium, Tonic Pilocarpine Compound, hot air baths to cause sweating. In later stages digitalis and squill, caffeine, compound spirit juniper, even cantharides in small doses.2
