AGARIC (White Agaric)

AMMONIUM CHLORIDE
   Stimulant expectorant, alterative, hepatic stimulant. Used es pecially in bronchitis, acute or chronic, in hepatic torpor and catar rhal jaundice, in neuralgias and as a resolvent in glandular enlarge ments. Dose, as expectorant, 0.13 to 0.6 Grm. (2 to 10 grs.); as hepa tic stimulant, 0.6 to 2.0 Grm. (10 to 30 grs.).³

CREOSOTIDE
   Creosote Iodide, a chemical combination of Iodine with the Guaiacol, Creosol and analogous bodies which are constituents of Beechwood Creosote. It is alterative and antiseptic, exerting a favorable influence over nutrition in wasting diseases. Wherever Iodine or Iodides are indicated, Creosotide may be prescribed. In incipient tuberculosis, it causes a gain in weight and a general improvement in symptoms. It has proved of value especially in the treatment of glandular enlargements, ofscrofulou³

ELDER
   The flowers (corollas) of SAMBUCUS CANADENSIS, Lin. Stimulant diaphoretic, diuretic, refrigerant. Externally applied in fomenta tions and poultices in glandular engorgements, erysipelas, etc,³

FALSE BITTERSWEET
   The bark of the root of CELASTRUs SCANDENS, Lin. Emetic, dis cutient, alterative. Has been employed in chronic rheumatic and cutaneous aflections, in secondary syphilis, and in the form of an ointment in treatment of burns, excoriations. indurated glands, etc.³

IODINE AND IODIDES
   Iodine and its compounds generally act as powerful alteratives, promoting absorption and so of service in glandular hypertrophies (e. g. goitre), enlargements of the joints, etc. P11-scribed (generally in the form of the potassium salt), in chronic syphilitic and scrofulous atfections, in subacute and chronic rheumatism, in glan dular cnlargements and to promote absorption of serous exudates. a. iodine. In addition to the properties above stated, free iodine is distinctly antiperiodic. It is too³

DIABETES INSIPIDUS
   If dependent on vaso-motor relaxation, ergot, extract suprarenal glands; astringents, particularly gallic acid and rhus aromatica. If due to nervous irritability, belladonna, nervines, bromides. Tonics are generally indicated, particularly iron and strychnine.³

GOITRE
   In simple Goitre (Bronchocele), ointment of mercuric iodide or tincture iodine externally; creosotide or potassium iodide and extract of thymus gland internally. In Exophthalmic Goitre, belladonna, strophanthus. ergot and sparteine are among the remedies that have been found serviceable. Extract of suprarenal capsules promises good results.³

MYXEDEMA
   Dried thyroid glands or an extract prepared from the fresh glands is the only remedy.³

NIGHT SWEATS
   The remedies most efficient are belladonna or atropine, camphoric acid, zinc oxide, pilocarpine (as a stimulant to the sweat-glands), sulphuric acid; as a lotion, solution of alum in water or dilute alco hol; diluted acetic acid.³

OBESITY
   Regulate the diet, withholding fatty, saccharine and starchy food to a large extent; as remedies, prescribe saline waters, e. g. Kis singen and Vichy on alternate days (the Effervescing Granules are convenient) or sodium phosphate; fluid extract bladder-wrack; ex tract thyroid gland; Turkish baths; suitable exercise, active or passive.³

SCROFULA
   Cod Liver Oil and Alterativos constitute the medicinal treat ment, hygienic measurus being, however, all-important. In anemic eases, syrup iodide ofiron, Hamno-M;1ngan with Arsenic, N., B. & C0,; for enlarged glands, ointments of iodine, Iodosyl or ichthyol and internally iodine compounds, especially Creosotide, N., B. 8: Co.; if suppuration threatens, sulphurated lime.³
